The Annual PEA Soup Awards

The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University and the team at PEA Soup are happy to announce the Annual PEA Soup Awards. We’ll be giving out 28 awards and $4,000 total in prizes to our best contributors and commentators for articles and discussion on PEA Soup posted in the 2017-2018 academic year. We’ll also be honoring and recognizing the work of ethicists from other online magazines and blogs. For PEA Soup post awards, any published piece between July 2016 and June 2017 is eligible. The same applies to external blog posts for the External Blogging Prize.

Applied Ethics (4 Awards)
These awards go to original PEA Soup contributions in applied ethics. First place is $200 and second place is $100. There will be both an editor’s choice and a reader’s choice pair of awards. PEA Soup readers may nominate an article for consideration for the reader’s choice award by filling out this form by July 31.

Normative Ethics

These awards will go to original PEA Soup contributions in normative ethics. First place is $200 and second place is $100. There will be both an editor’s choice and a reader’s choice pair of awards. PEA Soup readers may nominate an article for consideration for the reader’s choice award by filling out this form by July 31.

Metaethics (4 awards)
These awards will go to original PEA Soup contributions in metaethics. First place is $200 and second place is $100. There will be both an editor’s choice and a reader’s choice pair of awards. PEA Soup readers may nominate an article for consideration for the reader’s choice award by filling out this form by July 31.

Paper Prize (2 awards)
These awards will go to published papers in ethics and philosophy journals that are part of our discussion series. There will be both an editor’s choice and a reader’s choice. Each winner will receive $200. PEA Soup readers may nominate an article for consideration for the reader’s choice award by filling out this form by July 31.

Good Citizen Awards: Contributors and Audience (6 awards)
These $200 awards go to PEA Soup contributors and audience members who demonstrate good citizenship. Categories include

  • Contributor Award for Number of Contributions
  • Contributor Award for Audience Engagement
  • Top Commentator Award (A mix of frequent commenting and contributor feedback on helpfulness of comments)
  • Contributor Award for Best Journal Discussion Critical Precis
  • Best NDPR Discussion (to be split between the author and reviewer)

External Online Ethics Prize (6 awards)
This award will go to pieces in practical and professional ethics published in other online forums. These are the pieces we wish had been written for us. First place is $200 and second place is $100. We will also award 4 honorable mentions. We’ll announce the call for nominations in the late spring and narrow down the field of nominees by contributor vote. The editors will decide on the final two winners and the honorable mentions. Nominate articles/posts here by July 31.
